Call for Art: Fresh Terrain
Exploring Environments Real and Imagined
We invite artists to submit work for Fresh Terrain, a juried exhibition that delves into the theme of environment—both familiar and fantastical. This show seeks artwork that interprets landscapes, cityscapes, and the spaces we inhabit or dream about. From the natural world to urban jungles, serene seascapes to surreal dreamscapes, Fresh Terrain celebrates the diversity of place and the emotional, cultural, and imaginative connections we form with our surroundings.
Whether rooted in observation or invention, the work may capture a moment in time, map a psychological space, or envision a speculative future. Submissions can reflect a broad range of perspectives, including—but not limited to—climate, memory, identity, displacement, architecture, and the passage of time.
All mediums are welcome: painting, drawing, photography, digital art, sculpture, installation, and mixed media.

Our New Call for Art: Small Works
Continuing a cherished tradition now in its fourth year, our Small Works exhibition returns to celebrate the power of scale and the intimacy of detail. This juried show invites artists to explore creativity within a compact format, showcasing both 2-D and 3-D works no larger than 18 inches in any direction. From intricate sculptures to finely detailed paintings, drawings, and mixed media pieces, Small Works proves that size doesn't limit impact.

Coming Soon to Art City: Chantal Danyluk’s I Can’t Right Now I Am A Frog
Chantal Danyluk is a studio artist at the Bridgeport Art Center with an established presence in Chicago’s contemporary art scene. Her work has been widely exhibited throughout the Chicagoland area, including solo shows at the Leslie Wolfe Gallery and the One River School of Art in Evanston, as well as a two-person exhibition in Rock Island. She has also participated in group exhibitions across the Midwest, including in Missouri, Michigan, and Indiana.
Diagnosed with autism in 2004 and initially labeled as non-compliant, Danyluk now embraces neurodiversity through her whimsical, character-driven paintings. Drawing from the natural world, she explores the universal feeling of being misunderstood. Her large-scale oil paintings incorporate elements like frog legs as metaphor. In I Can’t Right Now, I’m a Frog, she captures the desire to momentarily escape the pressures of daily life, such as filing taxes. With humor and heart, Danyluk offers an imaginative and uplifting lens on mental health.
See the show on August 8th, 2025 at Art City (1400 N Halsted Ave. Chicago, IL). We hope to see you there!
Opening 8/8: Jim Yale’s Figurative Abstraction: Recent work and sketches
Jim Yale’s multi-disciplinary visual work is a meditation on the random combinations of color, message, language, and form found in everyday life.
Yale’s figurative painting and drawing work pulls inspiration from Matisse, Cezanne, Die Brucke, and the figurative art of the Bay Area in the 1950’s and 60’s. Figures are often alone, sometimes in an undefined space. Gesture takes precedence over realism. The figure is sometimes merely an assemblage of flat planes of color. Natural body language is the lingua franca; beauty is found in the turn of a head, a bend of a wrist or ankle, a shoulder half in shadow.
Jim Yale received his BFA in Graphic Design from the University of Illinoise at Urbana-Champaign. His work is in private collections in North America, South America, Europe, and the United Kingdom. He paints at his studio in Chicago.
See Jim Yale’s work and more on August 8th, 2025, at Art City (1400 N Halsted, Chicago, IL)
