“Waiting for the Train” by Douglas Black
15 x 11 x 1 (framed 17.5 x 13.5)
Oil on board
$250
I paint in oils, have since I was twelve, nearly fifty years ago. My output has ebbed and flowed over the decades, as have my interests changed to and from landscapes and abstractions, portraiture and flowers. People doing everyday things have captured my attention as of late, and I try to capture them in a contrast of what I call Vermeer Blue and Tangerine. This collection includes the Sunrise Swimmers who faithfully take the plunge into Lake Michigan rain or shine at Promontory Point; the same group of fellas I see waiting on a bus of undetermined schedule in Hyde Park; and a commuter waiting downtown at Millennium Station on Michigan Avenue.
