Sam Burzak (b. 1992; she/her pronouns) is a visual artist living in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago. She will receive her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, emphasis on photography, from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in the spring of 2024.
Within her practice, Sam utilizes and combines historical and contemporary photographic processes such as: cyanotype printing, silver gelatin printing, lumen and chemigram printing, medium and large format film photography, digital photo/video installations, and archival pigment printing. Her materials and forms of each project is often determined by the subject matter and its purpose. Although there may not be apparent connections in materials amongst her work, they are linked by recurring themes relating to grief, spirituality, humans' connection to nature, time, memory, and femininity.
She has exhibited with Side Street Studio Arts in Elgin, Illinois, Mana Contemporary in Chicago, Illinois, and Harper College in Palatine, Illinois, as well as having work a part of the Joan Flasch Artists' Book Collection + Archives, and images published in SAIC's Photography Department Catalog 2022 and 2023 issues.
