Josie Koznarek
Josie Koznarek is an artist based in Chicago, IL specializing in sumi ink paintings of botanical thoughtscapes. Coloring many of her stark lineworks with vibrant chalk pastel, Josie intends to communicate the myriad of subtle emotions humans can experience while navigating through the beauty and overwhelm of life. Josie accomplishes this by fastidiously referencing the vast pool of work that inspires her, including medieval etchings, Japanese ink paintings, scientific illustrations, cinematography, Art Nouveau, and the work of Robert McCloskey. A working artist since 2017, Josie's pieces have been shown at Jackson Junge Gallery, Fulton Street Collective, The Other Art Fair, Dragonfly Gallery and Creative Spaces, and in the storefront theatre production "The Nine Lives of a Cat" at PROP THTR and the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago.
