Riley Valentine is an analog artist based in Chicago, Illinois, originally from Kansas. In her work, Valentine explores Divine Femininity in its historical, individual, and internal incarnations. Through the intersection of photographic science and artistic craftsmanship, her practice challenges past and contemporary perceptions of femininity. Utilizing a variety of analog and contemporary techniques including still and motion picture film formats, Valentine incorporates the patience, versatility, and attention to detail that these highly capable mediums deserve.
The hyper-feminine gaze is translated through Valentine’s compositions through her artistic praxis, bringing her concept of the Divine Feminine to life. While creating a photograph, she faces the challenges and possibilities of analog; starting with the choice of film stock and format, her concept and creative direction are executed through the risk of archival technology. Achieving the advanced potential of these mediums requires attention to detail, incorporating both traditional and modern techniques. The practice of honoring the sacredness of femininity is Valentine’s purpose, and she is proud to demonstrate artistic precision with every grain.
