30” x 40” Oil on Canvas

Artificially Flavored

By Kevin C Lawler

I practice an extremist version of pareidolia through painting beginning with a randomized mark-making approach I’ll seek images that I can pull from the initial chaos. As an image is formed, I’ll edit and pull from life based references, thematically my paintings are varied, but the unifying idea centers around the inevitability of post-modernist notions of personal created identity, the ways that established cultures are successfully challenged through post-modernist cross examinations and the schizophrenic and authoritarian reactions that arise when previously dominant cultural norms begin to lose relevance with the majority of the population.
