30” x 40” Acrylic on Canvas
Midnight Cyn
By Terry Luc
These two paintings – Red Cyn and Midnight Cyn – are part of an ongoing exploration of what I call Modern Cubism. I was demonstrating different styles of Picasso’s painting to my students when I happened upon this technique, and it gave birth to a completely new direction for my art and me. It turned into a fascinating exploration that my students and I shared together. These pieces were created by painting from a live model as she continually worked through different short poses. The line work was all done with the live model in a short session lasting only 90 minutes. Compressed time became an important element in the process. Then the colors were added in the days and weeks following the session, thereby stretching out time in the process. Together time, space, light, and form combine to reveal truth. Terry Luc is a painter, illustrator and designer living and working in the Chicago area. He has had numerous one-man shows in the area and in Mexico and has participated in many group shows as well. The artists who have influenced Terry Luc the most include his teacher and mentor Ed Paschke, Pablo Picasso, the illustrators Frank Frazetta, NC Wyeth, and Gil Elvgren, and also English painter JW Waterhouse.
