Connection

By Michael Brooks

I consider my paintings successful if they serve as a correspondence between the natural world and humanity. The viewer is confronted and transcendence occurs from nature to the metaphysical world. One way the painting can accomplish this is blending sensory perceptions (e.g. visions appear as smells) leaving the viewer to almost view nature containing the “divine.” The net result is for the viewer to view oneself. From there a painting is capable of changing the way we think.
