"Lost at Sea" by Douglas Black
Oil on Plywood

I paint in oils, have since I was twelve, more than fifty years ago. My output has ebbed and flowed over the decades, as have my interests changed to and from landscapes and abstractions, portraiture and flowers.
Birds have always caught my interest. They know not how lovely they are, they simply go about their business in style, and I try to capture the emotion of seeing one – perhaps for the last time as in my series of extinct species.
Current works include a series of larger scenes from my neighborhood. People enjoying each other’s company. People cycling, dog walking, swimming.
People doing people things.
