"Distance of Glass" by Andrew Freeman
Glass and Acrylic
30’’ by 24’’
My work explores the fractured edge between memory, emotion, and spiritual transformation. Drawing from personal experience, trauma, and visions both psychic and symbolic, I create paintings and narratives that seek to uncover what lies beneath—behind the walls of the mind, inside houses filled with secrets, and within the silence of recovery. Themes of loss, survival, and divinity run through my art, often expressed through fragmented compositions, vivid color palettes, and layered textures. Many of my works—such as Climbing the Walls, Shattering My Soul, and Figures Like Glass—deal with emotional lockdown and the search for healing after psychological rupture. I’m deeply influenced by confessional voices like Sylvia Plath, the unsettling clarity of Megan Abbott, and the haunted innocence in Alice Sebold’s work.
