The driving force behind my work is an enduring connection to nature: raw, fascinating, whimsical and ever changing. In my eyes, nature is the true art form and I just want to be a part of it. I did not choose my subject matter, it chose me.Utilizing painting techniques, my work examines the emotional response and an imaginary personal connection that bubbles up inside me, when nature inspires. I use expressive colors that I steal from nature's palette, I observe the changing light, casted shadows and add thick paint application to create rich textures. I even collect pieces of nature to be included in my sculptures. With my response, I am sometimes driven to include representation of a divine messenger. I do not limit myself to one concept and paint the ideas as they evolve. I desire to draw the viewer in to share my emotional response, while finding comfort and joy through their own connection. Using heavy body acrylic paints, I carefully apply layers of paint. The application becomes more loose as the nature of the painting transpires. The use of brushes, pallet knives and even my fingers lends itself to more interesting markings, like those you might find in nature. It can be a playful process. The overlapping provides more depth in the painting as would if you were looking out into a garden. The action of painting is my dialogue with nature. I relish in the fulfillment it provides my soul! If I pull a viewer in for a moment of connection with my nature then it is a triumph.
