"Chicago Frijol" by Jennifer Cano
Gouache on Paper
12’’ by 9’’
Eighty percent of the painting is with the color hues of blue and green. Although the lake itself is not shown to add more of that blue tone, the representation of the buildings itself reflect the lake. This gouache painting of the Cloud Gate is one of the many art pieces that represent juxtaposition of art within architecture. I used gouache paints to take advantage of some bright colors as well as building layers and adjusting details. Chicago is home and although I chose a highly touristic area to paint, the scenery the downtown area has is hard to pass on. This image is one of many instances of traveling through the streets of Chicago. It can be hard getting through the city from heavy traffic or the frequent construction, so a stop at Cloud Gate feels like a pause from the rush. I studied architecture at the Illinois Institute of Technology. My art will always demonstrate a fascination for art. As well as demonstrate a fascination with culture within the city.
