For What Does a Fire Leave After Its Blaze?

By David Zhang

Scars are mementos of body activity. It’s an area reinforced and healed once a break has happened. They are often formed because of a shift in the process of healing. Scars serve as reminders, as landmarks. “For What Does a Fire Leave After Its Blaze?” narrows down the perspective of the body. I organize a field guide made from the history of my body, serving as an act of remembrance and memorialization. My practice acts as a way of processing, and through this piece I record my realizations of the things that have happened to my form, affecting its surface and shape. By allowing closer introspection without the fear of knowing, my relationship with trauma and the nature of continuation and toughened-healing becomes intertwined with the physicality of my presence.
